Apply for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support

About this form

This form is to apply for Housing Benefit, for help towards paying rent, and to apply for Council Tax Support, for help towards paying Council Tax.

The amount you get depends on your income and circumstances and depends on:
  • who you live with
  • income and savings
  • any personal circumstances, such as a disability.
To complete this form you will need the following details for you, and your partner, if you have one:
  • National Insurance Number
  • income such as payslips, pensions, self-employed income, benefits
  • any childcare costs
  • your capital, such as bank statements and shares
  • income details of other adults living with you
  • evidence of how much rent you pay, if you are claiming Housing Benefit
If you do not have all the information to complete the form you can use the Save Changes and Exit Form button and you will be sent an email with a link to return to the form at a later date.

You can complete this form for another person, as long as you have consent to do so, and can provide all the necessary information.

Useful notes to help you fill in the form:
  • the form will tell you what information you need which you can upload or send later
  • if you are working age and have savings of more than have more than £6,000, you cannot claim Council Tax Support. If you get a disability benefit this limit is £16,000.
