New Housing Benefit / Council Tax Reduction Claim
Apply for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction
This form is to apply for Housing Benefit, for help towards paying rent, and to apply for Council Tax Support, for help towards paying Council Tax.
The help is available to those on a low income. The amount you get depends on your income and circumstances. It is worked out by looking at:
your household
any other adults living with you
your income and savings
your personal circumstances, such as a disability.
To complete this form you will need the following details, where relevant:
your National Insurance Number (and that of your partner if you have one)
your contact information, email address, phone number
your income (and that of your partner if you have one), such as payslips, occupational pensions, self-employed income, any other household income, or benefits
any childcare costs
your capital (and that of your partner if you have one), such as bank accounts, savings accounts, premium bonds, stocks and shares and any land or property you hold that you do not live in
income details of other adults living with you
how much rent you pay, if you claim Housing Benefit
You can complete this form for another person, as long as you have consent to do so, and can provide all the necessary information.
Here are some notes that may help you complete the form:
as you go through the new claim process, you will be prompted if you need to provide evidence to support your claim. This can be uploaded to the form towards the end of the process, uploaded to our website later, or sent separately
once you have provided your contact details, they will be kept on our records to secure the date of your claim
if you have more than £16,000 you are not entitled to any benefit or reduction. If you are of working age, not classed as vulnerable and have more than £6,000, you are not entitled to Council Tax Support.
if you do not have all the information to complete the form in full today, do not worry - if you have provided an email address, most pages of the form will show a
